steady heart

Isaiah 43:19

Grace and peace be with you right now friend! Ever thought or said the following:

“I don’t feel close to God right now.”
“My prayers feel like they hit the ceiling.”
“Am I doing this Christian thing wrong?”

Sound familiar?
If you’re nodding along with tears threatening to spill or your arms crossed like, “Yup, that’s me,”—welcome, friend. You are so not alone.

I’ve been there. Worship music on full blast, hands lifted…but my heart? Numb. Or that quiet time where I’m trying to read the Word, but it feels like just…words. And the prayers—oh, the prayers—sometimes whispered in desperation, other times muttered with frustration. But all feeling like they’re bouncing right back at me.

Here’s the truth I wish someone had told me sooner:

Faith is not a feeling. Faith is a choice.

I know, I know. That’s not the Pinterest quote you were hoping for. But let’s be real—feelings? They’re like a pop song on shuffle. One minute you’re vibing; the next, you’re ugly crying to some ballad you didn’t even pick. Feelings are fleeting. Faith is firm.

Faith says:
“God, I don’t feel You, but I trust You’re here.”
“God, I can’t see the breakthrough, but I believe You’re working.”
“God, this season feels dry, but I’ll keep showing up because I know You never leave.”

Because here’s the thing—God is often working the most when we see Him the least.

the hidden work of God

Think about a seed. When it’s planted, it disappears under dirt. You see nothing. For weeks. But beneath the surface? Life is stirring.
Roots are stretching deep, anchoring into the soil before a single sprout ever breaks through.

That’s what faith is like. When you don’t feel it—when you’re buried under the weight of silence—God is strengthening your roots. He’s preparing you for growth you can’t see yet.

Isaiah 43:19 says it best:
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."

Friend, just because you can’t perceive it doesn’t mean He’s not doing it.

the mundane is sacred ground

We want mountaintop moments, but God often meets us in the mundane. That commute to work? Sacred ground. That messy kitchen table? Sacred ground. That 10-minute break between classes? Sacred ground. Because God isn’t waiting for you to feel holy—He’s already with you in the ordinary.

Psalm 23:1-4 reminds us:
"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing... Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."

Notice that? He is with you. In the valley. In the ordinary. In the silence. You are never walking alone.

when you don’t feel it, keep walking

You might not feel Him. But keep showing up.

  • Pray anyway.

  • Worship anyway.

  • Open your Bible anyway.

  • Talk to Him while you make coffee anyway.

Faith is built in the anyway. God is faithful in the meanwhile.

you need this

You are not a bad Christian because you don’t “feel it” right now. You are not broken. You are being built. Your faith is growing. Your roots are digging deep. And God? He’s right there—closer than your breath—even in the silence. Amen!

in harmony,

nancy
