seek
Proverbs 4:7
Grace and peace be with you right now friend! Ever felt like life is moving so fast that you can barely keep up? You scroll through social media, try to stay on top of your goals, your friends, and maybe even that cute new guy you’ve been praying about—and suddenly, you're hit with a wave of confusion and exhaustion. If you’re anything like me, you've probably asked yourself at least once: Am I doing this right?
Here’s the truth: we're all chasing something. Some are chasing success, others are chasing approval, and a lot of us are chasing purpose. But in all this hustle, we can lose sight of the one thing that truly matters—wisdom. Real, God-given, heart-transforming wisdom that doesn’t just make us smarter, but helps us live with meaning.
wisdom vs. knowledge
I’ve gotta say it—there’s a difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is knowing things. It’s Googling “best Bible verses for anxiety” or reading all the self-help books. It’s a lot of info, but does it always stick?
Wisdom, on the other hand, is taking what we know and living it out in the messiness of everyday life. It’s seeking God’s direction in decisions, big and small, and trusting Him when life gets confusing.
Proverbs 4:7 says, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
So, how do we get it? How do we pursue this wisdom that everyone talks about, but no one seems to know how to grab hold of?
the heart of pursuit: ask, seek, knock
Let’s not overcomplicate it. God isn’t hiding wisdom like it’s some divine scavenger hunt. He tells us in James 1:5 that if we lack wisdom, we should just ask. Yes, it's as simple as that.
Wisdom doesn’t require us to be perfect or have everything figured out (thank goodness!). It’s an invitation to seek, to lean into God, and admit, “I don’t have all the answers, but I know the One who does.”
Jesus puts it this way in Matthew 7:7: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Wisdom is found when we chase after God’s heart with our whole being—not just on Sunday mornings, but in our day-to-day choices, in the in-between moments when no one else is watching.
turning down the noise
We live in a world that’s LOUD. Everyone has an opinion, a new life hack, or a different path to success. But God’s wisdom often speaks through stillness. It whispers when we quiet the noise and turn our hearts toward Him.
To be honest, it’s tough to turn down the volume of the world. Trust me, I’ve been there. Whether it’s trying to measure up on Instagram or taking advice from people who don’t know Jesus, we’re constantly bombarded with things that drown out the voice of God.
Here’s a tip that’s helped me: start your day in the Word. Simple, right? But that quiet time with God, even if it’s just a few minutes before everything else kicks in, allows His wisdom to sink into your soul before the world gets a chance to speak into your day.
trusting in His timing
One thing about wisdom? It doesn’t always come with instant answers. And honestly, that can be frustrating. There’s something in us that craves control, that wants to know right now what’s going to happen next. But God’s wisdom often works over time.
It’s about learning to trust that God is good, even when we don’t see the full picture. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Wisdom isn’t about having all the facts—it’s about having faith.
living with purpose
When we chase after wisdom, something beautiful happens. Our lives start to shift. We’re no longer running around chasing things that leave us empty. We begin to see life through God’s perspective, and that changes everything.
We live with a deeper sense of purpose. We stop stressing about every little decision because we know God is in control. We start making choices that align with His heart, and even the mundane tasks—like doing laundry or running errands—feel more meaningful.
In a world that tells you to chase after fame, fortune, and fast results, pursuing wisdom is a radical act. But it’s also the only way to live a life that truly matters.
a prayer for wisdom
If you’re reading this and feeling like you’re at a crossroads, take a moment and pray for wisdom. Ask God to reveal Himself in your decisions, to guide you, and to help you listen to His still, small voice.
God, I want to live wisely. I want to make choices that honor You. Help me to seek Your heart above all else. Guide me with Your wisdom, even when I don’t have all the answers. Teach me to trust You fully and to walk in the path You’ve laid out for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Wisdom is not a destination—it’s a lifelong journey. It’s the pursuit of God’s truth over the world’s lies, of peace over chaos, and of purpose over popularity. So, let’s keep chasing wisdom, not because we want to have it all figured out, but because we want to live a life that reflects the heart of the One who created us.
Chase after His wisdom. It’s the only thing truly worth pursuing. Amen!
in harmony,
nancy
