Hebrews 11:1
Grace and peace be with you right now friend! In a world moving at light speed, thankfulness can sometimes feel like a beautiful concept that’s easily forgotten. But choosing to practice gratitude brings us back to the heartbeat of our faith—seeing God’s goodness in every moment and living in response to it. Let’s dive into ten ways you can embrace gratitude today, no matter where you are or what’s on your to-do list.
1. start with thanks
Begin your day with a "thank you" list. Take just five minutes to write down a few things you’re grateful for. Big or small, God is in the details. Did you wake up in a warm bed? Thank Him for it. Have food in the fridge? Thank Him again. Before you know it, that list grows, and so does your heart for gratitude.
2. pray with a thankful heart
Prayer isn’t just about requests; it’s a space for thanking God for His presence and provision. Try praying only prayers of gratitude today—let every sentence be a "thank you" for all He’s done, is doing, and will do in your life.
3. express thanks to someone special
When was the last time you told someone how much you appreciate them? Shoot a quick message, voice note, or even call a friend, family member, or mentor. Tell them specifically what you’re thankful for about them—it’ll mean the world to them and remind you of the blessing they are.
4. get outside + thank God for His creation
Sometimes the best way to reconnect with gratitude is to step outside and marvel at God’s creation. Take a moment to feel the breeze, notice the colors in the sky, or appreciate the beauty in something as small as a leaf. Creation is God’s gift, a reminder of His power and care.
5. practice contentment by giving thanks for what you have
In a culture that always wants more, practice saying “thank you” for what’s already in your hands. Look around—your home, your belongings, your opportunities—and simply thank God for what you have now. This heart of contentment helps us lean into God’s provision and trust in His timing.
6. set reminders to pause + give thanks
Set a few reminders on your phone throughout the day to pause and say a quick “thank you” to God. Whether you’re in a meeting, running errands, or having a quiet moment, let that reminder nudge you into a quick moment of gratitude, filling your day with worship.
7. thank God for challenges, too
Yep, even those! Our challenges often teach us the most, refining our faith and shaping our character. Reflect on a recent struggle, and look for how God is using it to strengthen you or draw you closer to Him. Thank Him for being with you through it, even if the journey’s not easy.
8. journal your thankful thoughts
At the end of the day, grab a journal and write down three things that happened today for which you’re grateful. Think about things that made you smile, small wins, moments of peace, or even lessons learned. A thankfulness journal helps you see God's work more clearly over time and strengthens your trust in Him.
9. worship with thankfulness
Worship doesn’t just have to happen on Sundays. Put on a favorite worship song today, close your eyes, and let yourself fully praise God for His goodness. Feel the freedom to raise your hands or sing along—worship reminds us that thankfulness is our natural response to God's love and grace.
10. look ahead with gratitude
Finally, take a moment to thank God for what He has in store for you. Even if the future feels uncertain, express gratitude for the opportunities He’s preparing, the growth that lies ahead, and His promises that never change. As Hebrews 11:1 says, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Practicing thankfulness isn't just a feel-good activity; it’s a faith-deepening way of life. It shifts our focus from what we lack to all that we have in Christ. Embrace each moment today with a heart of gratitude, and watch as it transforms your outlook and brings you closer to the One who is worthy of all our thanks. Amen!
in harmony,
