Psalm 46:1
Grace and peace be with you right now friend! Have you ever noticed how everyone’s obsessed with building physical strength these days? Whether it’s tackling the latest HIIT workouts, joining a Peloton class, or getting hyped after watching the Olympic athletes go all out, it's clear that physical strength is always trending. But what if I told you there's another type of strength training that's even more crucial? Yep, we're talking about soul strength—the kind of resilience that gets you through the toughest seasons, not just physically but spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
what is soul strength
Just like our bodies need exercise to stay strong, our souls need a workout too. But instead of dumbbells and treadmills, we're lifting prayers, carrying faith, and running the race set before us with endurance. Resilience, in this sense, is the ability to bounce back from life's punches and stand firm in the storms. It’s that inner grit that says, "I’m not backing down. My God’s got me."
the warm-up: knowing your source of strength
Before any good workout, you've got to warm up. For our souls, the warm-up is grounding ourselves in who God is and who we are in Him. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Knowing this truth is like stretching before the big game—essential for preventing injury and getting ready for action.
the workout: spiritual disciplines as strength training
Now, onto the workout! Here are some key exercises to build that soul strength:
Prayer Squats: Just like squats strengthen your core, prayer strengthens your spirit. It keeps you grounded and helps you stand tall in the face of adversity. Whether you're in the car, in the shower, or walking to class, make prayer a constant dialogue with God.
Scripture Reps: Want to build spiritual muscle? Get into the Word. Scriptures like Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” are like protein shakes for your soul. Memorize, meditate, and let those verses sink deep.
Worship Lifts: There’s something powerful about lifting up praise, especially when life feels heavy. Worship shifts your focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver, building resilience through joy. Blast your favorite worship songs and let the music work its magic.
the cool-down: resting in God’s presence
After every intense workout, there’s a cool-down. For your soul, this means resting in God’s presence. It's about taking time to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). In these moments, He rejuvenates our spirit, renews our strength, and prepares us for whatever comes next.
don’t quit
Resilience isn’t built overnight, and just like with physical training, there will be days when you feel like giving up. But remember, every rep, every prayer, every scripture, and every song of worship is strengthening your soul bit by bit.
And here’s the thing—God’s not asking you to be perfect; He’s asking you to be persistent. Keep showing up, keep pressing in, and know that with each step, you’re building a soul that’s unshakeable.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your bible, put on some worship music, and start training that soul of yours. God’s got big plans for you, and you're going to need all the strength you can get! You’re stronger than you think, and with God as your coach, there's nothing you can't overcome. So go ahead, take on life’s challenges with a resilient heart, knowing that you’ve got the ultimate Strength Trainer by your side. Let’s keep flexing that spiritual muscle together! Amen!
in harmony,
