purpose
Ephesians 2:10
Grace and peace be with you right now friend! Navigating life, career, and calling can feel like a never-ending maze. Whether you're chasing a dream job, stuck in a role you can't stand, or wondering how on earth your passions and God’s plan for your life connect, it can be a lot. But here’s the beauty of it all—God has infinite wisdom ready to guide us through every twist and turn.
So, how do we tap into that wisdom? How do we truly embrace God’s direction for our career and calling? Let’s dive into this journey together and unpack what it means to walk in wisdom in this area of life.
career vs. calling
First, let’s clear the air on the difference between a career and a calling because they’re not always the same thing. Your career is what you do, but your calling? That’s who you are. Your calling is deeply tied to your purpose in God. It’s how He wired you to impact the world.
Your career might be working in marketing, teaching, or music, but your calling could be to encourage, inspire, and lead people closer to Christ. Understanding the distinction helps free us from putting too much pressure on a job to satisfy what only God can do through our purpose.
seek God’s wisdom first
Before you start worrying about what’s next, remember this: God’s got you. His wisdom is always available, but we have to seek it. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
We often try to figure everything out on our own—strategizing, planning, and stressing—but the truth is, God’s wisdom is the key to unlocking the path ahead. Seeking Him through prayer, reading the Word, and spending time in worship opens up the clarity we need for our next step.
don’t fear the pivot
Sometimes, God calls us to pivot. Yep, just when we thought we had it all figured out, He switches things up. But guess what? It’s part of His perfect plan. Don’t be afraid to pivot when you feel God leading you in a new direction. Your comfort zone might be the very thing holding you back from your calling.
Take Paul, for instance. He went from persecuting Christians to becoming one of the most influential apostles. Talk about a pivot! Trust that God knows what He’s doing when He shifts you into a new season.
wisdom in waiting
Let’s talk about the waiting—we all hate it, right? Waiting for the dream job, the next opportunity, or the “aha!” moment about your calling can be frustrating. But here’s the deal: God is working in the waiting. Sometimes, wisdom looks like patience. When you wait on God’s timing, you are positioning yourself for something far greater than you could ever imagine.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) says, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Waiting isn’t wasted when it’s in God’s hands. So, instead of stressing out, embrace the season of waiting, trusting that God is preparing something amazing for you.
your calling isn’t just about you
This might sting a bit, but it’s true—your calling isn’t just about you. God’s calling on your life is designed to impact others. Whether through your job, your interactions, or your influence, the purpose of your calling is to glorify God and serve those around you.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) reminds us, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
When we align ourselves with God’s calling, it shifts the focus off ourselves and onto how we can be a vessel for His Kingdom.
don’t compare your journey
In this social media-driven world, comparison is too easy. You see someone else thriving in their dream career or living out their calling, and suddenly you’re second-guessing everything about your life. But here’s the thing: God’s plan for you is unique. What He’s called you to do doesn’t look like anyone else’s path, and that’s a good thing.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
God has a specific plan for you. So stay in your lane and trust the journey He’s set before you.
Walking in wisdom when it comes to your career and calling is all about trusting God’s plan, seeking His guidance, and staying open to His lead. You don’t have to have it all figured out—God’s already got the blueprint. Be faithful where you are, trust Him in the process, and allow His wisdom to direct your steps.
Remember, your calling is more than just a title or a paycheck—it’s the way you live out God’s purpose in every season of life. So take a deep breath, trust Him, and enjoy the journey. You’ve got this, and more importantly, God’s got you! Amen!
in harmony,
